Porthleven

On the first day of out mini break, we first headed to a Chocolate Factory. (We have our priorities.)

I didn't take any photos as I was too busy selecting and tasting chocolates. Then we headed to Portleven, a small port town not far from where we were staying.

Harbour.
And first stop was lunch and a drink. Which was very nice.

Then we had a walk (well dad and I walked, mom was chauffeured in her wheelchair) around the harbour and along the pier.

From the end of the pier.

That night, we cooked pizza and drank wine, and watched an amazing sunset before retiring inside for a film and more wine. (I love holidays!)

Minack Theatre

We used the cheap Sun paper holidays to take a holiday with a holiday and on Friday went down to the Penzance area at the end of Cornwall for a long weekend, mainly because we had theatre tickets for the Friday night. It turns out we were a way from Penzance at Kennack Sands and very close to a lovely beach. As we got there too early to check in we headed to said beach for a lounge in the sun.

Kennack Sands beach.

ON the Friday evening we had tickets to see 'Tomorrow's End' at the Minack Theatre. This is an open air theatre set into the side of the cliff overlooking the coast line.

Dad and I had seats on the lower balcony but due to mom's reduced mobility, she had to stay up at the top area.

Looking up.
The play was interesting, set in World War I just before the last 'over the wall'. It was very moving. And the setting was gorgeous. It was hard to know what to look at sometimes,  play or beautiful scenery.

The only issue was the temperature. Thanks to a very cold wind sweeping down the cliff and it being crystal clear, it was freezing! Unusually so apparently. Even the actors put on extra layers during half time and they are used to the weather. Dad and I had to huddle up under a spare coat. But poor mom was even more exposed. We were happy when the play finished and we could get back to the car and its heating. Though I would recommend the play. Just somewhere a little warmer.

First day of my holiday

I finally got to go on holiday! A few weeks ago, I left work and headed straight down to Cornwall (thankfully not breaking down this time), arriving at about 11pm to a cup of tea. (Mom and dad got down there a few days before and set up Kerry and Craig's van which they were lovely enough o let me use.)
And I picked a brilliant time to go down. I woke up to clear blue skies and they stayed that way for the next 10 days.

Home
We didn't do much on the first day, just a quick trip into Padstow for a cream tea and a few bits. All the flowers were out. (My photos of the harbour didn't save for some reason but that was gorgeous as well.)

We spent the evening relaxing and drinking wine in the sun.

Wightwick Manor

The May Bank holiday I went home for the weekend. Due to mom still being in a cast and basically stuck in a wheel chair, we were limited in where we could go. We ended up at a National Trust house, Wightwick Manor, which was home to a guy with a paint empire and his wife, who were both Suffragettes.

Wightwick
Partly due to the centenary celebrations of some women finally getting the vote, they have set out memorabilia around the place.

Mom in her chair.
I want this library
They also had little factoid frames around with statistics. Some of which were shocking, though most I had sadly heard many times before.

The great hall
I did leave mom on her own for a bit and had a look around upstairs. (She was happy chatty to some people so I didn't feel too guilty.)

Male grooming kit.
Wardrobe fold away bed.
The weather cleared up, despite being forecast to rain all day. We had a little walk (or roll in Moms case) around the gardens but couldn't get far. So sat and enjoyed the cafe for a while.

On the Sunday, we went for breakfast and then to the Red Cone, a glass centre in one of the only surviving glass manufacturing cones in the UK, and the largest. I thought they had moved all the pieces from the Broadhouse glass museum there but I was wrong (they put every thing in storage for a few years until they can find a new building, which sucks.) But there was a glass blowing demonstration on which was cool. And makes me want to try it more. Something else on the Bucket list.

Fancy meal

A couple of weeks ago I meet my old boss from America and we caught over a meal in central London. The restaurant, Archipelago, was amazing! The menu is the exotic and very cool. For my main I have crocodile curry (I was tempted by the Kangaroo though). And for dessert I had to try the chocolate cover scorpions.

Yes they were actual scorpions and they were crunchy and really tasting. I highly recommend. (And if anyone is London wants to go for a cool meal, I am totally ready for another lot.)

And very nice decor.
